What I really love about this video, though, is how thoroughly it claims the Los Angeles landscape as an African nexus, an aboriginal dreamtime where the funkiest sufis in the land get to play chess and sip mint tea with the most beautiful earths in the galaxy. Man, where are my lessons! I need to know today’s mathematics right now!

I think I hate her because she’s so sexy and I’m all married and stuff. I really can’t tell. If she were on the chunky side like Missy, would I be more impressed with her talent? But since she’s virtually a rapping video vixen, I keep resenting the fact that her lyrics and presence are so… effective, deft and skillful. Those aren’t the kind of modifiers I want to be thinking of when I’m fantasizing about Nicki in a jungle, lathered in gorilla grease, undulating in a camo bikini. Thank God for the zombie soldiers to lighten the mood.

I’m not sure I’m wowed by the video, but the song is retarded good. It has that vintage sound Raphael Sadiq, Amy Winehouse and recently Mayer Hawthorne have mined so effectively. I’m not exactly sure what the song is about, but I don’t think that’s the point. This is a shot of pure adrenal serotonin. Its intention is to make you dance and shout out “Sho’nuff!” at the top of your lungs. I’m not sure what mirror-faced androids and mental patient/students in a Palace of Dogs has anything to do with that but, hey, that genius for ya.

Some things are a humanity test. These are the ways we will discern robotic killers masquerading as bodybuilders and flesh-and-blood people. I’ve always been a big fan of Pythagoras and his anti-legume diet, but I never quite got the whole “numbers rule the universe jazz” until I saw this.

My dude Kenji posted this on FB and I just had to snatch it. I’ve never seen the entire movie, but now I must. This makes me angrier than a bucket of wasps. I mean, I’m not going to sit here and lie about how bad I would be in those days, making whitey pay for treating me some kind of way, but I will say this – my kids sure would know how a lot of colorful synonyms for ‘honky.’
